Peregian is named after Peregian Beach (pronounced Pe-ridg-ian), an exclusive, pristine beach just south of Noosa on Queensland's beautiful Sunshine Coast. * Peregian garments are made from natural, lightweight fabrics so they do not offer ultra high sun protection. For long periods of sun exposure, particularly when swimming 30+ UPF (or higher) garments should be used. Our lightweight garments are designed to reduce incidental sun exposure when outdoors eg. at the park.
Australian Designed, Owned and MadePeregian garments are designed and manufactured in Australia for the Australian lifestyle and climate. Where able we source fabrics and materials from local manufacturers, however Australian made textiles and trims are somewhat limited so overseas products may be sourced from local suppliers.

Peregian's EvolutionThe idea for Peregian Designs came about when my daughter was born and I found there wasn't clothing readily available that would cover her very fair, delicate skin, whilst also being cool and fashionable. Purpose made lycra "sun suits" are hot, unattractive and not appropriate beyond the beach or pool. I was looking for something more versatile and attractive that could be worn at the beach, over a singlet at the park and to brunch, lunch or any other engagement we may have reducing her exposure to the sun through all our activities. This gap in the market teamed with my passion for classic design and natural textiles, especially pure linen and cotton voile resulted in the conception of this label.
Peregian VersatilityOur philosopphy is for our garments to be versatile, wear at the beach over swimmers, at the park over a singlet or with our coordinating dresses. Team our childrens' kaftans and tunics with our long pant or jeans/leggings already in your child's wardrobe. The loose fitting cut and adjustability means longevity of our garments for your growing child, in most children long pants become 3/4 pants and then shorts as they grow and no longer require their nappy.
Peregian Fabrics, Trims and StylingLight weight linen and cotton are the ultimate compositions for clothing to feel delicious against the skin whilst naturally allowing skin to breathe. Linen is also incredibly durable and much less water-intensive than cotton to produce. Loose styling of pants and tops promotes further circulation of air against the skin keeping your child cool. Most Peregian tops have hoods which assist in protecting the side of the face, and back of neck against the sun, wear the hood under a hat for the ultimate coverage. As our core objective is skin coverage for sun protection, our kids' hats are broad brimmed, with chin straps so they stay on and perform their role of shading the face and neck as well as being fashionable. Tops have high necklines and long sleeves. Dresses and singlets in our range always have a coordinating kaftan or tunic top that can be layered on top to provide skin coverage when required.
