Pure Linen, Cotton & Silk Blends

Peregian's signature is the use of pure linen, fine cottons and silk-cotton blends........

 Why Linen?

First and foremost it is beautiful, lustrous and luxurious to wear against the skin.

Characteristics:

  • natural fibre made from flax, a plant which some consider has healing properties (flax seed etc)
  •

  • natural resister of dirt so it washes up well
  •

  • less water intensive than cotton to grow and less energy intensive to process
  •

  • good conductor of heat and highly absorbant, quickly wicking perspiration away from the skin thus making garments cool to wear
  •

  • fluidity, it billows as you move, encouraging circulation of air, creating a cooling effect
  •

  • 2-3 times the strength of cotton & it is stronger when wet so linen launders well
  •

  • improves with washing, becoming softer and smoother over time. Linen tablecloths have been handed down generation to generation
  •

  • due to its durability and strength, linen is the preferred support for artists' paintings

  •

  • linen does crush, but what makes you feel more "beachy" than those lovely crisp creases - at least then people know you are wearing linen!

  •

Care advice:  To minimise creasing and/or make ironing easier, flick the garment out when wet and hang to dry, this is often adequate for a trip to the beach or park.  For a crisp look, iron when damp.
